Our first session at Laurel Elementary was a home run!
Gorilla Play Day is proud to offer the kids of Menlo Park & Atherton its unique brand of fun and fitness as an after school program. Gorilla Play Day is a PERFECT fit in the MPCSD, partly because many kids on these campuses have either been to a Gorilla Play Day birthday party, day camp, or are familiar with Teacher Chris Ortez from his twelve years at Menlo Park Gymnastics. Also this fall, assisting Teacher Chris will be the fabulous Teacher Michelle Sutton, also of Menlo Park Gymnastics fame.
Our programs are offered on:
Mondays at Laurel Elementary (grades K-2) in Menlo Park
Tuesdays at Encinal Elementary (grades K-2) in Atherton
Wednesdays at Oak Knoll Elementary (grades K-3) in Menlo Park
Thursdays at North Star Academy (grades 3-5) in Redwood City
The types of games played include:
Some traditional sports like soccer, field hockey, wiffle ball, basketball
Playground games like capture the flag, and dodge ball
(soft “gator skin” balls and no hitting above the chest)
Tag/chase games like sharks & minnows, and freeze tag
Obstacle courses, races and relays, tug-o-war, parachute games,
Some tumbling and gymnastics sprinkled in
Most weeks will have a theme and the games and activities are selected for that week to support the theme (e.g. Olympics Week with out take on the games). Where applicable, the kids will be separated by grade levels into appropriate groups. We practice positive discipline when needed and treat every child with respect and as an individual.
The Gorilla approach is mostly fun-based with an emphasis on collaboration rather than competition. Our goal is fitness disguised as fun.
