Meet Chris Ortez
I’ve always loved working with kids, even back when I was a child myself. At family gatherings, I loved playing with, entertaining, and caring for my younger relatives.
In my early adulthood, I became a “manny” (male nanny) to a roommate’s 8-year-old daughter. The experience was rewarding all around and set me on my life’s path.
In 2001, I went to work at Menlo Park Gymnastics teaching kids as young as 18 months up to the age of six. While I did not come from a gymnastics background, I learned a lot fast and quickly became a favorite among kids and parents alike, up until my departure in 2013. I also had a brief stint working at the awesome California Sports Center (Cambiranna) in San Jose, teaching kids from two years old up through Level 1 gymnastics, until my beautiful and amazing daughter, Violet, was born in 2012.
Back in early 2010, a group of parents whose children attended Menlo Park Gymnastics suggested to me that we take the kids outside the gym to play when the weather cooperated. The management could not permit the request, so I took it upon myself to get some cones, some balls, and a few other accouterments, gather a group of my loyal fans (many of them are still with me to this day) and on April Fool’s Day 2010, Gorilla Play Day was born!
When not conducting monkey business with Gorilla Play Day. I’m a stay-at-home-dad to Violet. My lovely wife, Jennifer, is a labor/delivery RN at a hospital in Los Gatos. We hope to give Violet a brother or sister in the not-too-distant future!
